On a bright September morning at Springfield Community Campus, volunteers armed with litter pickers and bin bags gathered for Corsham Climate Action’s latest litter pick. Children in hi-vis jackets joined long-standing community volunteers in helping to keep the town’s streets, parks and green spaces clean.
The occasion marked Leafield Environmental’s donation of two new recycling bins to the Recycling Hub, a volunteer-led initiative helping residents recycle items that are not easily disposable through household collections. The Recycling Hub has become an invaluable resource for the community, accepting everything from soft plastics to printer cartridges, writing instruments and spectacles.
For Leafield, whose manufacturing facility is based in Corsham, it was an opportunity to support the valuable work being carried out by local volunteers to reduce waste and increase recycling.
Working together for a cleaner Corsham
During the event, Leafield Managing Director Philip Maddox formally presented the bins to members of Corsham Climate Action. The donation included a Pencil Bin, which will be used to collect soft plastics, and an EnviroBin Midi with a distinctive pink lid dedicated to printer cartridge recycling.
Designed to make recycling simple and intuitive, the new bins will replace older containers at the hub and provide clearer guidance for visitors. Easy-to-read labels and clearly defined waste streams help users dispose of materials correctly, reducing contamination and improving recycling outcomes.
The Pencil Bin is expected to be particularly popular with younger visitors. Its distinctive pencil-shaped design offers a fun and engaging way to encourage children to develop positive recycling habits from an early age.
A shared commitment to sustainability
The recycling bins were brought to the Recycling Hub to replace old bins that had reached a state of disrepair.
Philip spoke with Steve Abbott, Corsham Town Councillor and Corsham Climate Action member, about Leafield’s sustainability journey and the role well-designed recycling and litter solutions can play in reducing environmental impact.
Reflecting on the donation, Steve said:
“I would like to thank Leafield Environmental for their very kind donation of two recycling bins for Corsham Recycling Hub. The bins are both very sturdy, and the accompanying labels should be clear to users, thereby avoiding contamination issues. The Pencil Bin will be used for soft plastics to encourage kids to recycle, as it is a great novelty bin.”

For the volunteers who dedicate their time throughout the year to reducing litter, increasing recycling and promoting environmental awareness, the new bins will provide practical support in their day-to-day efforts.
Leafield Environmental is proud to support organisations such as Corsham Climate Action that are making a tangible difference within their communities. As a local manufacturer, the company remains committed to working alongside councils, community groups and residents to share practical solutions that help create cleaner streets, increase recycling and support a more sustainable future.
